Recently, a certain website posted more than ninety thousand classified documents and reports from the Afghan war effort. (To paraphrase the great Paul Harvey: I am sure they would like me to link to their site) The only thing comparable to this was the release of the Pentagon Papers during the Vietnam War.
Personally, I am disappointed in the “lack of reaction” in the American Mass Media. If it was not for the internet bloggers and foreign media, this story would wither and die. The public is led to believe the troubles of Lindsey Lohan are more important than our soldiers in a foreign land. There are a couple things that do trouble me about this that no one has mentioned. |

Well, we got brushed by our first storm this year. Tropical Storm Bonnie came through the Keys. She only left an inch of rain for us, according to my rain gauge. It was not a serious event (they did not even evacuate the Keys) but it is a good reminder of what can happen.
As part of our emergency preparations, I picked up a couple backpacks at Walmart for $29. They were truly an impulse buy because they were exactly what I was looking for. I found them in the automobile section called “Motorcycle Backpacks” made by Fieldline. They are designed to strap on to the sissy bar on the back of the seat. Ironically, my Honda does not have a sissy bar, but a hardcase trunk. |

It’s here again. Hurricane Season. It seems it is the one thing about everyone in Florida has something to say. I notice this year, people are not dwelling on it, even though we already had our first storm back in June. Personally, I am happy it is not the constant topic of years past. This is not to say it is not serious. I doubt anyone that lived here in 2004 cannot help but take hurricanes seriously. Thought it is nice not to have it constantly placed in your face.
