We had a new problem this weekend: Our heat pump froze up!
Normally, this radiator does not ice up because the humidity is so low. By the time the temperature gets down to freezing, the heat pump stops working (there is no heat left to pump). Well, I figure that rainy day we had on New Years kept the humidity high while the radiator pulled heat into the house. Then the temperature dropped, and the ice got worse and worse. The solution was simple enough. I turned off the heat pump and dug out the garden hose and sprayed water over the radiator until the ice was melted away. This wasn't perfect though, the radiator was half iced over the next morning. We just had to make sure the heat pump was turned off the whole next day let the rest melt. So, learn from our mistake and check your outside unit for ice. Please sign in to comment. You can email me with This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
